The Eriste reservoir — also known as the Linsoles reservoir — sits barely three kilometres from Benasque, next to the village of Eriste, and makes for one of the most rewarding walks in the valley: an almost entirely flat path that hugs the shoreline, with the peaks of the Posets massif rising behind it and the woods mirrored in the water.
The full loop is 3.84 kilometres with just twenty-two metres of climb, so an unhurried hour will do it. You don’t have to walk the whole thing, though. One of the best ways to enjoy it is to follow the path for a stretch, find one of the grassy banks that run down to the water and settle in for a picnic while the children play and throw stones in. There are rest areas with benches and tables along the way.
The main section has a wide, firm surface, so it works with a pushchair, and children can ride their bikes without any trouble. It’s also an easy alternative if you’d rather not head into the high mountains but still want to spend a morning or an afternoon among water and woodland.
Starting point
Eriste, in the car park by the reservoir on the edge of the village. It’s a five-minute drive from Benasque on the A-139, and you can also walk or cycle there if you’d rather start from town.

When to go
All year round. Spring is the greenest, autumn turns the hillsides gold, and in winter the water sits like a mirror. In summer, go early or late in the day: some stretches have no shade at all.
What to bring
Comfortable shoes, water and something to eat. A hat and sun cream in summer, and if you’re with children, a change of clothes — the shoreline is an invitation to get your feet wet.
