The Benasque Valley is the perfect destination for families with children. Beyond easy hikes, there are plenty of parks and options for kids.
What is the best time to visit?
Anytime is great for a visit. The landscape of the Benasque Valley changes season after season, showing its different faces, which can be enjoyed all year round.

☀️ Summer (June–September) — the green mountains
Making the most of the good weather. The meadows are green and you’ll find cows grazing in them, rivers full from the snowmelt, long days and pleasant temperatures. July and August are the busiest months — and the most crowded. June and September offer exactly the same with the valley almost to yourselves. If you can avoid the school peak, they’re the perfect months.
Tip: the valley floor is 18-25°C in summer, but above 2,000 m the afternoons can turn quickly — always bring warm clothing for the kids.
❄️ Winter (December–March) — proper snow
At Cerler there’s plenty for kids even if they don’t all ski: there are dedicated learning areas, sledging, the Enchanted Forest (an interactive trail) and Ampriu Park for those who prefer snow without skis. On top of that, on rainy or snowy days you can head indoors to Benasque’s play centre or its sports hall, which stay open.
🍂 Spring and autumn — the valley to yourselves
If what you’re after is mountains without the crowds, these are your seasons. You’ll feel as though you have the woods and paths almost to yourselves, and even though some shops and services are closed, the valley welcomes you with open arms.
Easy walks
From short, gently graded routes beside the Ésera river to longer outings where you can soak up the scenery.
A good one to start with is the family-friendly Paseo a Anciles.
Another very easy option is the walk around the Eriste reservoir: a flat path beside the water, fine with a stroller or on a bike, and there is no need to do the whole loop — just walk a stretch and stop for a picnic on one of the grassy banks.
Activities with kids
For bad-weather days, or for those moments when you feel like taking it easy, there are also options such as plenty of playgrounds or a play centre.
Villanova Park
In the village of Villanova, right by the river, there’s an ideal spot to spend some time with the kids. There’s a green area with picnic tables and some shadows, a playground and a football pitch. The area is fenced, so both parents and kids can enjoy a relaxed time.

Pumptrack and outdoor sports area in Castejón
At the entrance to Castejón de Sos, set among the trees, there’s a very well-kept pumptrack where kids and grown-ups alike can enjoy their bikes. Not only that: the area has other sports facilities, such as the municipal swimming pool and an athletics track. It’s a lovely wooded area for a walk on foot or by bike, and it’s suitable for pushchairs too.

At the far end of this area, during the summer months, Casa Farreloro sets up a food truck for eating outdoors (check the opening hours).
Benasque sports hall and playground
Benasque has a very large sports area for outdoor activities or for playing inside the sports hall, whose court is open to everyone — so you’ll often find lots of kids there on cold and rainy days.
There are also football pitches for a kickabout, a fenced playground, a padel area and even a zip line. It’s very well kept, like everything in Benasque, so it’s a great plan for the little ones to burn off some energy.
