Anciles, or Ansils, is a village two kilometres from Benasque that you can reach on foot or by bike. This one really needs no preparation at all: the simplest option is to follow the Anciles road, which takes you past the Guardia Civil barracks and its helipad and, depending on the time of year, cows grazing on both sides of the way.
You can do it on foot, with a pushchair or by bike, and it’s fine for the youngest walkers. It’s a stroll rather than a hike — one for those moments when you fancy some fresh air, a bit of scenery and a village as pretty as Ansils.
There’s a playground with swings at the entrance to Anciles where you can stop for a rest. And the village’s grand old stone houses are well worth a wander.
If you’d rather not go back the same way, you can return to Benasque by crossing the river, though bear in mind there’s very little shade until you’re almost back in town.
