The cable car linking Benasque with Cerler now has a date and a price. After the works were signed off in May with a summer opening in mind, Benasque Town Council has approved, at an extraordinary plenary session in mid-August, the piece of paperwork that was still missing: the declaration of the cable car as a public urban transport service by cable, together with the fare table for its first year of operation.
With that settled, the opening now points to December 2026, coinciding with the start of the ski season in Cerler. No exact day has been announced yet.

These are the fares approved for the first year. The reduced rate applies to under-12s and over-65s:

Why it was delayed
The original target was July. According to the sources reporting it, the delay was not technical: the regional elections left the Government of Aragón in caretaker status, which made it impossible to process in time some two million euros in regional subsidies needed to put the service into operation. With the administrative side now resolved, the reference point becomes the start of winter.
Who will run it
The infrastructure is municipally owned and will stay that way. For the first two years the council will run it through a service contract with a specialist operator, taking on the financial risk for that period. The aim is to gather real demand data — how many people use it, when, and what kind of user — before putting a long-term concession out to tender with solid figures in hand.
What it means for visitors
The cable car covers close to two kilometres and around 370 metres of ascent between Benasque and Cerler in about six minutes, with 53 ten-person cabins and a capacity of roughly 2,400 people an hour.
For visitors the practical reading is simple: in ski season you can sleep in Benasque and get up to the slopes without a car, without hunting for parking in Cerler or depending on the state of the road on a snowy day. And outside winter, it opens quick access to the higher ground for anyone who’d rather walk up there without driving.
