Update (22 October 2026): the cable car didn’t open in the summer and won’t open in December either. Read the story about the delay.
After almost a year of work, the new cable car linking Benasque with the Cerler ski resort is finished. Benasque Town Council has now taken delivery of the infrastructure, promoted by the Government of Aragón as part of the Plan Pirineos, and the mayor, Manuel Mora, has confirmed that the works went “very well” and are “finished” — with no overrun on the planned budget of 16 million euros.
The new cable car covers 1,968 metres between Benasque and Cerler, climbing 367 metres in a ride of about six minutes, with 53 cabins in service.
What remains is no longer construction but paperwork: the mayor explained that the exact opening date does not depend on the Town Council, but on the usual administrative procedures for this kind of infrastructure before it can go into operation. The aim is to have it running this summer.
Mora highlighted the reach of the project beyond the valley: “It’s a very good development for everyone, not just for the Benasque Valley but for all of Aragón”. He also stressed its environmental impact, describing it as infrastructure with a “zero carbon footprint in its surroundings, which for us is essential”.
For visitors to the valley, the cable car opens a direct link between Benasque and Cerler without relying on the road — useful both in the ski season and in summer. More information on its website: telecabinabenasquecerler.com.
