The Refugio de la Renclusa is the obvious place to spend the night if you’re taking on Aneto the following day, since it takes a serious chunk out of the climb. It’s also a short, rewarding walk in its own right for anyone who simply wants a first taste of the valley’s high mountains.
Starting point
The route starts at Besurta, the last point you can reach by car (or by shuttle bus in high season) before heading into the high mountain terrain around Aneto.
Highlights
- A short, well-signposted climb: just 1.7 km and 232 metres of ascent to the hut, around 57 minutes at a steady pace
- Views over the Vallibierna valley and the Maladeta massif, which open up as you gain height
- The Refugio de la Renclusa itself, at 2,140 metres, the usual overnight stop before climbing Aneto
When to go
Accessible most of the year apart from after heavy snowfall, which can leave the final stretch icy or hard-packed and make crampons advisable.
What to bring
Water, mountain boots and warm layers depending on the forecast — the climb is short, but you’re already above 2,000 metres. If you’re staying the night, confirm your booking before setting off.
Bookings
In high season it’s worth booking a bed well in advance. You can check availability and book on the hut’s website.
